If
you want an old tube radio or a piece of vintage hifi equipment
repaired or restored, like amplifiers or receivers built between
(approximately)
1970 and 1990, for example a Sansui 9090 receiver, a Marantz 2270
or something similar) I may be able to do that for you.
A couple of things to note here:
- I'm working just by myself (no staff) so depending on what
I already
commited to, I may not be able to take on new repairs/restorations for
some time. Even if I do accept a repair or restoration job, I won't be
able to give you a firm completion date.
- I'm not giving you any upfront cost estimates. I need to
see and
inspect the equipment first, so that I have an idea of what all needs
to be done to bring it back to working condition before giving you any
estimates. While at times a restoration can be completed by simply
replacing all electrolytic capacitors, sometimes a lot more is needed.
- I do reserve the right to not accept a repair/restoration
job. In
general, I won't touch anything that has been stored in a wet or overly
damp environment (such that there's lots of mold or corrosion) or that
has water damage. I might not be able to find all the parts needed for
repairs/restoration or find a service manual for the piece of equipment
to be restored and more. If it's some piece of equipment that I don't
have a lot of experience with or that I know to be hard to repair
(like some tape or cassette decks, for instance) I simply might not
want to do it.
- I do prefer equipment to be dropped of and picked up, but
you can ship it too.
- If you do
decide to ship the equipment to me and want me to ship it back to you,
you're responsible for all shipping expenses even if I don't accept the
repair or restoration job. To minimize the chance of that
happening, send me good quality photos of the equipment, inside too if
possible before you ship and if I think you're wasting your money
shipping it, I'll let you know. Also be sure to pack it well and have
it
insured, if it's valuable. Yes, I have received pieces of equipment
that were destroyed in shipment, often times simply due to poor
packaging and I can't take any responsibility for that - nor (in most
case) will the shipper, be it FedEx or UPS or anyone else.
Typically I will use the packaging used for sending me the equipment to
send it back.
Still haven't scared you away? Then contact me via email
(ton@tonsoldradios.com), and describe what piece of equipment you'd
like repaired or restored, and send some photos of the equipment with
your email.
